Frequently Asked Questions
How long is each counselling session?
Sessions usually last 50 minutes unless we agree something different in advance. We will finish on time so you have space to ground yourself before returning to your day.
How often will we meet?
Most people find weekly sessions helpful, especially at the beginning. We can review the frequency together over time, depending on what feels manageable and supportive for you.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people come for a short period to focus on a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term work. We will review regularly so you can decide what feels right for you.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what brings you to counselling, and think together about what you might find helpful. You are welcome to ask questions and there is no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel like the right fit.
Is everything I say confidential?
Counselling is confidential within the limits of professional and legal requirements, which I will explain clearly in our first session. Very occasionally I may need to share information to keep you or someone else safe, and wherever possible we would talk about this together.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer online sessions as well as telephone sessions. If you prefer in-person sessions, this would be subject to availability. We can talk about what feels most comfortable and practical for you.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange an appointment?
Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans need to change. I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a session; otherwise the full fee may still be payable. We will go through this together in my cancellation policy.
Do you work with trainees or newly qualified therapists?
Yes, I offer counselling and supervision for trainees and newly qualified therapists. If you are in training or early in your career, we can discuss what you need from therapy or supervision and how best to support your development.
